When it comes to shooting outdoor we always run into the issue of some electronic ear muffs being too bulky and tend to get moved from your ear when shooting rifles. Well since that has always been a problem there has been the solution of sticking to just regular ear plugs or even now days to switch to electronic ear buds. For a while the electronic ear buds have always been a pricey item and the typical shooter usually just sticks to the standard ear plugs or to ear muffs.
Now things have change with the new AXIL GS Extreme 2.0’s. The GS Extreme 2.0 delivers 3 products in 1. It’s like having Bluetooth ear buds, noise isolation headphones and electronic ear muffs all in one product.

Below I included the instructions, It’s kinda odd for me to do that but these instructions do have a great diagram of how it all works and all the accessories that are included with it.
My Experience
Okay, So now lets talk about my experience with them. The first thing i did was watch the video that is recommended on how to properly put them in your ear….because if you do it wrong then you will definitely claim that they don’t work.
The ear buds came in a great quality case that is not bulky and I can stash it even in my pocket without them getting damaged and the case also carries the charge, all the extra sized, and type tips.
My first time trying these I took them to a enclosed outdoor range and shot 9mm. I had no issues at all and they worked great with the windscreens I installed that they came with. Also the battery life was still good after 3 hours at the range with them on.
Now the second time taking them out shooting I tried them without the windscreens and ironically it was at a outdoor trap shotgun range and it was windy out. Needless to say, when the wind blew I definitely was annoyed by the sound and missed not having the windscreens on the earbuds that day. The ear buds performed very well while shooting shotgun. While out at the shotgun range I talked to someone who had the earlier versions of the same earbuds in and he actually really enjoyed them and has been using them for the last 4 years and has had no issues. Now that is impressive!
I even took them for a long 8 hour outdoor test in 1 degree Celsius weather. The great thing about that was they didn’t hurt my ears after a extended period of time like earmuffs always do. Also they didn’t get in the way of my eye protection.
Now I did discover one slight negative to these ear buds. While out in the cold when I first went to put the ear buds in my ears the foam was hard due to the cold wear….and well I figured out if you just slightly set them in your ear for a minute they will warm up enough to be soft and you can put them in the correct way. After that little discovery things were great. I was able to shoot .9mm, 12 GA and .223 all outdoor in the cold with no issues.
Now I was able to learn that when shooting in a enclosed outdoor range that the concussion from a rifle (5.56mm) was too much for the ear buds and my ears started to ring after 3 shots so I had to switch to the electric ear muffs.
So in all I highly recommend these ear buds for outdoor shooting (Pistol and Rifle). They are also good for enclosed outdoor ranges and indoor ranges, BUT only with pistol calibers. If you are a hunter, I would say these should be a must have in your hunting gear since you can wear these for 8 hours with no battery issues and have complete comfort.
