First Impressions, Performance and Optics Setup
The new Ruger RXM 9mm Luger is an exciting addition to the modern striker fired handgun market. Designed with modularity, optics readiness, and real world performance in mind, it brings together features that many shooters have been waiting for.
In this report, I am showcasing two versions equipped with the compact grip module, offering a 15 plus 1 capacity. At the same time, Ruger also offers a full size grip version with 17 plus 1 rounds, giving users flexibility depending on their intended use.

Design and Modularity
One of the most interesting aspects of the RXM platform is its modular design. The grip modules can be swapped, allowing the shooter to adapt the pistol to different hand sizes or applications.
Both versions shown here use the smaller grip frame, which feels compact, balanced, and ideal for dynamic shooting. The ergonomics are clean and functional, without unnecessary bulk.
A major advantage is magazine compatibility. The RXM accepts magazines from Glock 19 and Glock 17 depending on the configuration. This is a huge benefit for shooters who already run Glock platforms and want to integrate the RXM seamlessly into their setup.

Sights and Configuration
The pistols shown are equipped with tritium night sights, providing excellent visibility in low light conditions. This makes the RXM immediately usable in professional or defensive scenarios without requiring upgrades.
My models do not feature a threaded barrel, but Ruger does offer versions with threaded barrels for users who want to run suppressors or compensators.

Shooting Performance
The first 1000 rounds went through both pistols without a single malfunction. Reliability has been absolutely flawless so far.
What stood out most is how quickly the system settled in. Within the first 200 rounds, the barrel and internal components smoothed out noticeably. The gun started to feel more refined, cycling became softer, and overall shooting comfort improved quickly.
The trigger has its own distinct character. It is not a copy of typical striker fired systems, and it evolves over time as the pistol wears in. Shooters who prefer a lighter or more defined break right away can easily upgrade to an aftermarket option such as a Timney trigger.
Optics Ready Without Compromise
One of the strongest features of the RXM is its optics system. The pistol is fully MOS compatible, but with a major improvement.
Instead of requiring adapter plates, the RXM uses a direct multi footprint mounting system. This means most red dot sights can be mounted directly onto the slide without additional interfaces.
This design has several advantages:
- Lower optic position
- Faster dot acquisition
- Improved shooting comfort
- True co witness capability without changing the front sight
The result is a flatter sight picture and a much more intuitive shooting experience.

Bushnell RXM 300 Reflex Sight
Mounted on the pistol in the photos is the Bushnell RXM-300 Reflex Sight.
This optic complements the RXM platform perfectly.
It features a clear 4 MOA dot that is easy to pick up and remains crisp under various lighting conditions. The larger window significantly improves spatial awareness, allowing faster transitions between targets and better overall control.
Shooting with this setup feels natural. The dot appears quickly, tracking is smooth, and target acquisition is noticeably faster compared to smaller window optics.
Additionally, the RXM 300 comes with a wide range of accessories, as seen in the photos. The overall package is well thought out and ready for serious use right out of the box.

Availability in Europe
Both Ruger firearms and Bushnell optics are available through Helmut Hofmann GmbH.
They are a well established distributor in Europe and can provide detailed support, product information, and guidance for customers interested in these systems.
Final Thoughts
The Ruger RXM is not just another striker fired pistol. It combines modularity, reliability, and a modern optics system in a way that feels purposeful and refined.
Highlights at a glance:
- Excellent reliability with over 1000 rounds without issues
- Fast break in period and smooth operation
- Modular grip system with multiple capacities
- Compatibility with Glock magazines
- Advanced optics mounting without adapter plates
- Strong performance when paired with modern red dot optics
Combined with the Bushnell RXM 300, this setup delivers a highly capable and modern shooting platform suitable for both professional and sporting applications.
