Sports Shooter Michael Paa Celebrates His Comeback – From Germany to the USA

After several years away from competitions, May 2024 marked my long-awaited return. Together with my mentor and teammate Frank Reiche, I won medals in the Production Division at the CMP Bianchi Cup and the NRA Flagler Cupin the United States.

A memorable moment and the perfect restart.

Just a few weeks later, in July 2024, another highlight followed. At the international competition The Tactical Games in Iowa, I secured third place among more than 150 participants. The challenge was tough, which made the result even more rewarding.

Motivation through Mentor Frank Reiche

During the turn of the year, Frank and I had many discussions. We analyzed training sessions and past matches, reflecting on strengths and weaknesses. With every exchange, the fire grew stronger. We knew it was time to get back into serious competition.

Frank is not only my mentor but also a top-class shooter and a true veteran of the shooting sports. He still holds Hall of Fame records with the German federation BDMP and the world organization WA1500. His experience and calm approach make him an invaluable partner in both training and competition.

Preparation for the World Championship in New Zealand 2025

In May and June 2025, the spontaneous idea arose to compete at the World Championship in New Zealand in October. At the same time, the announcement for the German International Bianchi Cup and the 23rd ranking match in Alsfeld was published. We decided to go all in.

With the support of gunsmiths Klaus Hiendlmayer and Tim Kiesewetter from Eggenfelden, we began fine-tuning our equipment. Parts were polished, adjusted, and tested repeatedly. A competition firearm is never a one-size-fits-all solution. It must be refined, reworked, and tested until it feels exactly right.

Focus on Trigger Work and Training

Many believe that simply reducing trigger weight leads to better results. That is not the case. In Production and Production Optics, a minimum trigger weight of 3.5 pounds is mandatory. What truly matters is the trigger’s character.

For me, it’s simple: “It must be smooth and crisp.” The trigger should have a clear two-stage feel, with a defined break point that allows for precise shots under pressure.

New Record with Holosun 507 Comp

In the Production Optics Division, I used the Holosun 507 Comp red dot sight. With this setup, I achieved 1885 out of 1920 points. A new German and possibly European record. Such a score had never before been reached on European soil in this division.

The following day, at the ranking match in Alsfeld, an even higher score seemed possible. I was on track for 1898, but two malfunctions cost me crucial points. I ended with 1848, still an outstanding result despite the setback.

Double Victory at the German International Bianchi Cup

With temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius and strong international competition, the German International Bianchi Cup 2025 in Alsfeld turned into a perfect event. I secured victory in both the Production and Production Opticsdivisions.

Only one day later came the 23rd ranking match – and once again, I managed two wins.

Four starts. Four victories.

Looking Ahead to the World Championship in New Zealand

After my comeback in 2024 in the United States, this double triumph in Germany is a powerful statement. I am back – stronger than ever.

The coming months are now focused on the World Championship in New Zealand 2025. The competition will be fierce, but with my current form, my experience, and my passion, I am ready for the challenge.
