Olight Perun Mini 3 Review — Ultra-Compact EDC & Headlamp with Charging Case

My Everyday Carry Light for Home, Travel, and Outdoor Use

The Olight Perun Mini 3 is one of those flashlights you start using occasionally — and then suddenly rely on every single day.
It is extremely small, lightweight, and surprisingly powerful, making it an outstanding choice for EDC (Everyday Carry), indoor use, travel, and outdoor activities.

Whether used as a headlamp, clipped to clothing, or carried loose in a pocket, this tiny light covers an impressive range of real-world scenarios.

Tiny Size, Serious Output

Despite its minimal footprint, the Perun Mini 3 delivers performance that rivals much larger lights.

Key specifications:

  • 🔆 Max output: 1,000 lumens (Turbo)
  • 🌙 Moonlight mode: 2 lumens
  • 🔴 Dual-level red light + red SOS mode
  • ⏱️ Max runtime (Moonlight): up to ~10 days
  • ⚖️ Weight: approx. 54 g (with battery)
  • 🧲 Magnetic tailcap
  • 💧 Waterproof rating: IPX8

This balance of size, weight, and runtime makes it one of the most practical ultra-compact headlamps currently available.

Versatile Mounting Options for True EDC Use

Olight Perun 3 Mini clipped inside a pants pocket using its pocket clip without the headband attached.

A strong pocket clip allows the Perun Mini 3 to be attached almost anywhere:

  • Belt or pocket
  • Backpack straps
  • Jacket or T-shirt
  • Baseball cap (turning it into a lightweight headlamp)

Clipping it to a cap brim is especially useful — quick, stable, and far more comfortable than carrying a full headlamp when you only need occasional light.

Headband with Quick-Release System

The larger kit includes a dedicated headband with a clever mounting system.

Instead of forcing the light into a tight silicone loop, the lamp clips securely into a holder.
Press the release button — and the light detaches instantly.

Benefits:

  • Secure hold during movement
  • Fast transition between headlamp and handheld use
  • No fiddling or pulling required
  • Easy operation even with gloves

Simple One-Button Control and Light Modes

All functions are controlled via a single side switch.

Moonlight Mode — Perfect for Night Use

Press and hold the button while the light is off to activate Moonlight Mode at about 2 lumens.

This ultra-low output is ideal for:

  • Moving through a dark home at night
  • Reading without glare
  • Preserving night vision
  • Situations where you don’t want to wake others

Runtime in this mode can reach up to about 10 days of continuous use.

White Light Levels

The Perun Mini 3 offers multiple brightness settings:

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High
  • Turbo (1,000 lumens)

Turbo produces impressive brightness for such a small device but steps down automatically to manage heat.

Red Light Mode and SOS Function

A standout feature is the integrated red light.

Activation:

👉 Double-press the button while the light is off

Available options:

  • Low red
  • High red
  • Red SOS signal

Red light is extremely useful for:

  • Maintaining night vision
  • Discreet illumination
  • Indoor night movement
  • Camping or outdoor use

Personally, I use the red mode frequently when moving around the house at night without disturbing others.

Premium Kit with Charging Case & Power Bank Function

I use the Perun Mini 3 Premium Kit, which includes a compact charging case.

The case serves multiple purposes:

  • Safe transport
  • On-the-go charging
  • Power bank functionality
  • External control via the case button

When opened so the lamp head protrudes, the light can even be operated directly while inside the case.

Combined with Moonlight Mode, this setup delivers extremely long total runtime — potentially weeks of usable light.

Charging options:

  • 🧲 Magnetic charging cable (Olight standard)
  • 🔌 USB-C charging for the case itself

Real-World Durability

I have used this light heavily since November, without babying it.

It has already survived a drop from head height. Apart from minor scratches, it continues to function perfectly and still looks very presentable.

For such a small flashlight, durability is impressive.

Not a Tactical Light — and That’s Completely Fine

It’s important to clarify the intended role:

👉 The Perun Mini 3 is not designed for tactical use.

A headlamp with constant illumination would continuously reveal your position — making it unsuitable for tactical scenarios.

For that role, a weapon-mounted light would normally be preferable (where legal), or a handheld tactical flashlight.

In Germany, weapon-mounted lights are prohibited, so I personally rely on a handheld light such as the Warrior X4 for tactical training.

The Perun Mini 3 excels instead at:

  • Everyday carry
  • Household use
  • Camping and outdoor tasks
  • Close-range work
  • Travel
  • Emergency preparedness

Honest Opinion — Even With Brand Cooperation

I collaborate with Olight through my YouTube channel.
However, this flashlight was not provided for free.

I purchased it using commission earnings from that partnership.

I am not bound by editorial guidelines and am free to express positive or negative opinions — which is why I clearly state that this is not a tactical tool.

Testing Alternatives: Nextorch UT30 Multilight

Despite my cooperation with Olight, I also test products from other manufacturers.

Currently, I am evaluating the Nextorch UT30 Multilight, a comparable headlamp/EDC light from Nextorch.

Unlike Olight, I have no partnership with this company.

My goal is simply to determine whether Nextorch also produces high-quality lights and whether a future collaboration might make sense.

The UT30 offers similar functionality but adds an interesting feature:

👉 An integrated motion sensor that allows hands-free activation without pressing a button.

This can be extremely useful in work scenarios where gloves, dirt, or occupied hands make manual operation difficult.
