Mantis Titan X - Laser Training kit
The Mantis TitanX has become one of the best training tools we own, not just for improving shooting skills, but for getting the entire family involved in safe, structured firearms practice at home. After spending time with it, I can honestly say it’s one of the most useful pieces of gear I’ve added to our training routine.
The TitanX is an inert laser training pistol designed specifically for dry-fire practice. It looks and handles like a real handgun, but instead of firing live ammo, it emits a laser when the trigger is pulled and tracks your movement through the Mantis training system. Because of that, you can work on fundamentals like sight alignment, trigger control, reloads, and draw practice without going to the range.
Great for Training at Home Without Ammo
One of the biggest advantages of the TitanX is how easy it makes it to train consistently. With the built-in laser, resetting trigger, and compatibility with the Mantis app, you get instant feedback on every shot. The system analyzes your movement and helps you correct mistakes in real time, which makes dry-fire practice much more productive than just pulling the trigger on an empty gun.
Because it doesn’t use live ammunition, we can practice safely in the house, in the garage, or even in the backyard. That alone means we train way more often than we ever did when range trips were the only option.
Getting the Kids Involved Safely
One of the many benefits I’ve found while testing the TitanX was to help teach my kids the basics of gun safety and handling without the pressure of live fire. Since the TitanX is a dedicated training pistol, I can focus on teaching fundamentals like grip, trigger discipline, and sight picture without worrying about recoil or noise.
It’s been a great way to make training fun while still reinforcing safe habits. The kids actually enjoy using it, and because the system gives instant feedback, they can see their improvement right away. That keeps them interested and we have fun as a family playing the different games and target challenges in the mantis app.
Huge Confidence Boost for New Shooters
My wife is a newer shooter, and the TitanX has helped her confidence more than anything else we’ve tried. Being able to practice reloads, trigger control, and accuracy without the stress of live fire makes a big difference.
The weighted magazines and realistic controls let you practice reload drills just like you would at the range, which makes the transition to live shooting much easier.
After a few weeks of using it regularly, her accuracy improved, and she’s much more comfortable handling a firearm. Through the confidence she built while using the TitanX she is actually conceal carrying now, and our trips to the range have been much more enjoyable and confident for her!
Turns Training Into a Competition
One unexpected benefit is how fun this thing is when friends come over. With the Mantis app and laser targets, we turn practice into competitions to see who can get the best score, fastest time, or tightest group. Using the different games like the Dart Board has been a great time to have some friendly competition.
Instead of just standing at a range lane, you can run drills, timed exercises, and challenges that make training feel like a game. It keeps everyone engaged, and people who normally wouldn’t care about shooting end up wanting another round.
Recommendations / Tips
When I first got the TitanX I paired it with the Mantis app and used it just like I would any other mantis device, this provide feedback on trigger pull, grip, and alignment. After some time we moved onto the Mantis Laser Academy. This is where it got serious. There are a ton of targets and drills within the app. You can purchase target packs to be shipped to you or you can download and print them out at home for free. I recommend using some thicker card stock to print on to give the targets a little rigidity. There are a lot of freebies within the apps, but some of the “games” require you to buy a training bundle. After some time using my phone to run the app, I did switch to using an Ipad with a larger display. I found that I prefer to have my device closer to the target instead of trying to zoom in on the target. This seemed to track hits more accurately and consistently. Having the larger display allowed me to see my scores and track my hits actively instead of approaching the device to review my scores after the session.
Good Tripod: At first when I started using the Laser Academy it was frustrating trying to get my phone camera to stay still and recognize the targets. A good tripod, and a good target stand is an absolute necessity. Trying to prop your phone up against something will be a frustrating endeavor. You do need to be able to interact with your device during training sessions, switching training modes, adjusting par times, switching users (shooters) ect. Invest in a good tripod from the beginning will ensure a more enjoyable experience. Mantis offers one HERE.
Camera Shade Kit: I also recommend getting the shade kit that mantis sells along with the TitanX, I was able to get the device to work fine in a dim room, but if the wife is watching TV while I was training I found that the app would pickup on light from the TV and start to call random hits. The shade kit solved this issue. Now I can train in the same room while my wife watches her shows, overall definitely worth the couple extra bucks! Shade Kit for sale HERE
